In Abcoude, next to the train station and a stone’s throw from the historic village center of Abcoude, a multifunctional sports house has been created by a citizens’ initiative of the inhabitants. This makes it a good example of citizen participation in social real estate.
The sports house consists of a height-adjustable 6-lane 25-meter swimming pool with whirlpool, a sports hall that can be separated into two gyms and a meeting room with restaurant and meeting room.
Because the project had to be realized on a limited plot, and a sports hall was added later in the process, the sports hall was raised and located above the pool area.
